Welcome to CROWDworking to clean up West Dorset’s rivers, beaches and coastal waters
CROWD was inspired by the work of the various River Action groups in West Dorset, by the work of Dorset Climate Action Network, and was founded in 2023 at the instigation of several river campaigners and the then MP for West Dorset, Chris Loder. Separate from CROWD, the River Lim Action Group works and campaigns to clean up the river and beach at Lyme Regis. River Char: Length-of-river water quality testing
We have set up with Wessex Water regular tests along the length of the River Char over 2024. These cover chemicals, metals, bacteria (including E. coli), weedkiller, pesticides and forever chemicals. We run matching tests in our own lab so that we can be confident our own results are reliable. We hope to extend these tests to other CROWD rivers next year. Strategic Monitoring Plan on the River Brit
Ian Rees, Caroline Pearce and Rose Rychnovsky lead a group that will monitor the River Brit catchment for a whole range of pollutants and other threats - and then work to regenerate those rivers. 2023 Westcountry CSI reports for CROWD rivers:
